MON EXCLUSIF LEAVES, MON GUERLAIN IS ANNOUNCED
Just as Guerlain announces a major international fragrance release called Mon Guerlain, promoted by American superstar Angelina Jolie, the brand discontinues Mon Exclusif. The main notes of Mon Guerlain are described as lavender, jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla. According to Guerlain boutique staff, the scent is identical to Mon Exclusif.
According to Guerlain, Mon Exclusif was inspired by Jicky's lavender-vanilla accord. The genius of Jicky (1889) was to combine lavender and other Provençal herbs from Eau de Cologne Impériale with novel aroma chemicals whose odour was sweet and long-lasting, like coumarin and vanillin. Since then, lavender has mainly been used in men’s scents, although it was a frequent top note in Jacques Guerlain’s works. Maybe Guerlain thought it was time to revive the lavender note and do a fougère that would appeal to today’s women.
However, except for the lavender, most fragrance reviewers saw little connection between Jicky and Mon Exclusif's sugary mix of butter caramel, patchouli and creamy-powdery floral notes, an accord that has been immensely popularized by Lancôme's La Vie Est Belle. Mon Exclusif belonged to Guerlain's Exclusive collections and therefore had a limited distribution, but it received mostly positive comments from those who tried it.
